Had a really good session before school last Friday. Still rather unsatisfied with my intervals aka match fitness. Maybe its my lacklustre mental strength. I dont know.

Looking beyond that quote by Vince Lombardi, I come to 2 conclusions.

1) Losing is unthinkable. Defeat is simply out of the equation.
2) Which also means that one need/should not make any contingency plans. No back up plans. This is because the route to victory entails supreme confidence; the prospect of defeat/failure is nonexistent.

When I say supreme confidence, I am talking about ..being absolutely 100% sure that you are going to get what you want to get.

You might rebut and say "That is too dangerous. Too foolish."

Yes it is a risky proposition because screw ups are always lurking around; waiting to rear their ugly heads when you least expect it. And when they occur, you are gonna be in a pretty bad shape because you did not make any plans for an alternative route to your goal.

To that, I reply by saying

I dislike the idea of backup/alternative goals (If I dont get X, I'll be contented with Y)
More often than not, they are merely excuses for you to settle something less than what you originally wanted.

This might sound extreme. But if I find myself planning "What ifs..." , it simply goes to show that

1. I am not ready yet.
2. I am not confident enough.

To summarize.
1. Set the ultimate target.
2. Burn all bridges: Burn all backup plans.
3. Strive for precision and perfection. (minimal margin of error, remember.)
4. Reap the rewards.

Post Match Reflections
Amidst the ominous backdrop of never ending exams and what nots.. I managed to squeeze out 2 hours of my Sunday for a long overdue game of football. I had 7 shots, 5 of which were off target before I finally scored one 15minutes from FT.

Reminder to self
Take a glance at the goal before unleashing the shot.
All the studying has taken its toll on my fitness.
More midnight runs, checked.

On a side note, Im really pleased with how the exams are unfolding.

41/45 for PSY 324.
Haven't got bck SOC101 but the lowest I can go is 47/50 ..i think.
PSY 336 shouldnt be a problem too.

But alas, like a stubborn collosal edifice, UGC111 stands in my way of getting a perfect 4.0 ..
Honestly, I dont have high hopes for my Mid terms. I would be glad with a 65/80. Which means I would have lost about 5% .. Which also means that I only have about 5% more to lose for my project work AND final exam. Hmmm. CHALLLENGING. and that's the fun part. :)

utterly exhausted.
the sweltering afternoon heat sapped me of my stamina within 60 minutes.
andwe conceded a weak goal after a misplaced backpass was gleefully converted by our opponent. within 3 minutes, i was presented with this stunning opportunity to pull one back for the team. I was engaged in this pursuit of a bouncing ball, when all of a sudden, my marker headed the ball against his own goalkeeper and it bounced off his gloves! absolutely did not expect it! with my concentration derailed, i desperately tried to stick out my leg to deflect the ball into the net. (empty net)
But no. Today is not my lucky day as the ball bobbled harmlessly off course. Away from the goal.

Flaunting a standard of soccer that really..was from another planet, Manchester United were simply invincible; a testament to their sheer dominance in England and Europe. I cheered with every incisive pass, I roared with every exquisite flick..but most of the time, I gaped at the players in silent awe.

Little Wonders

Was in the car when the radio started playing “Little Wonders” by Rob Thomas. Our lives are made in these small hours, these little wonders and these twisted turns of fate.

I thought about the moment I stepped onto the pitch, representing my PJC Hockey for the first time. I remember feeling like an inconspicuous ant amongst the colossal giants, so I simply did what I did best: run everywhere like a headless chicken on a frenzy spell. I thought about the moment I scored my first goal during my SRC Hockey match in the 1st Division of the hockey league. I wrote the date and the match on my shin-guards with a permanent marker. I thought about the moment my form teacher handed the alevel report to me; the “oh well you saw it coming didn’t you?” gaze. I thought about my first few hours in Tekong…the realization that I am going to be just another shaven recruit, homogenous with the masses and taking orders from people I don’t even a shit about. I thought about the moment I set my eyes on her for the very first time as I got out of the taxi and the story that unfolded after that. It ended, after a year.

woke up at 8am.
ollyshit my first lesson is at 9am at bukit batok.
rushed like a mad man.
turned the whole room topsy turvy.
reached there at 915am.

1st lesson ended.
rushed to 2nd lesson of the day ( also at bukit batok which is a blessing ) which was scheduled at 11am.
reached there at 1125am.

left early without the student noticing or maybe he noticed but doesnt really give a flying damn about it. hahaha. had no choice ..because ...

my third lesson of the day was stupidly scheduled at 3pm back at my condo.
reached there at 315pm.
didnt bring my phone so i didnt keep track of the time. lesson overshot, ended at 5pm instead of 430pm.
taught her oral examination.

i love teaching oral.

rushed back home.
grabbed my soccer kit.
rushed to the soccer field 5mins walk.

PLAYED SOCCER TIL 7PM.
MATCH ENDED 5-5.

Im effing pleased my performance this evening. I lack the stamina to track back to cover the defense fter making flank runs though. So i have decided that i will embark on this vigorous personal training regime from this day onwards, by running every morning before my tuition lessons. (:

personally. i think this is the most effective soccer trick, hands down. no doubt about it. i was mesmerized by it when i saw ronaldinho execute it on a hapless defender in a La Liga match, and ive been trying to learn it ever since. doing it alone in the room is easy, but executing it against a defender in a street soccer match is a totally different issue altogether! The downside is that, the ball will end up on my left foot side so i either gotta cut back to my right before shooting or work on my left foot shooting. (:

look at the defender. haha thats one hundred percent ownage for you. notice how ronaldo keeps his body really straight.
